The road surface up as far as Gourdon is OK and the ride excellent, after Gourdon the surface is not pleasant. Descending from the Col to Gourdon is very rough; beware of on coming traffic on the road down from Gourdon to Chateauneuf.
After arriving at the Col de l'Ecre continue to Caussols and return via St Vallier and Grasse with a fast descent on the Cols de Ferrier and Pilon
Starting the climb from Opio adds a 15% climb to the route (cote de chateauneuf)
